Played a mixer tonight, a celebration for Niles Electric, for being in business for 70 years. Bob Brahmst, ex-president ( a couple of the shots in the pile are with my dad at the party today ), sponsored all my Dad's Niles-Centerville little league teams, from the late 60s through the early 80s. 14 years worth of baseball between Bob and my Dad. Bob and my Dad are both long retired from the construction trades. Jodi Brahmst, Bob's son, has been running Niles Electric a long while now himself, with kids of his own ready to take over when he eventually retires. Talk about family tradition. So, Jodi was a team mate of my brothers on those early NCLL Niles Electric Braves teams back in the day. I got to be the tagalong little brother at the watermelon parties after the Saturday games in our backyard. They went 19-1 when Danny and John and Pat were all on the team together with Jodi. Not sure how old Bob is, but he's in good shape and smiling. My Dad is 80. He dug up an old #3 Braves Jersey, the one both me and my brother Danny wore as 10 year olds on the team, successively. When Dad walked in and Bob saw him, there was a yell and a big hug between the two. This wasn't really a gig, it was a chance to hang out with some old school Nilesians, courtesy of Fremont Chamber Of Commerce and the 150 folks who came for the ribbon cutting and speeches. Big congrats to Niles Electric for 70 years of electricity, and for sponsoring the Braves and the Mets all those years ago :-)
