JL has shared bills with blues greats and Americana legends BB King, Etta James, JJ Cale, Leon Russell, John Hammond, Jimmie Vaughan, Keb' Mo', Corey Harris, Tommy Castro, Taj Mahal, Leon Redbone, Joe Louis Walker, Tower of Power, Dan Hicks, & Suzy Bogguss. Blind Blake and the rest of his honored forebears haunt everything he does, including his upcoming song-of-the-ages album on which producer Etienne de Rocher (Sean Hayes) plied his remarkable talents. It's a bit confounding to box a one-off like JL. He's a songwriter, where harmonica and a kickass 12 string figure into the mix. With so much varied blues and 20's/30's style in his system, he also plies his ragtime and blues guitar gems in his other band, "Hobo Paradise", which recently tore the house down at the legendary jazz club Yoshi's in San Francisco.
For those who know my my own stuff, my really old old stuff - in 1985 I wrote a dittie called "November 4th", about playing on the streets in Greenwich Village, NYC. I will brush up on that one and so will Patrick McClellan on upright bass :-) "It's November 4th That's Why"
The Mudpuddle Shop is a very cool tiny old barbershop turned into an art and music space (sure, I'll cut your hair, why not). There's a good chance the Mudpuddle Shop Show nights devolve into a Mudpudle Jams after the official concerts are over. Listeners and musicians are welcome to stick around for that as well, just bring instruments if you play, or pluck an extra shop guitar.
